Donate
You can support this community, or skip us entirely and give straight to the organisations doing the work. We will happily tell you to do the second one.
Give to high-impact charities
For most people this is where the money should go. These funds and evaluators do the research so you do not have to, and a modest donation to a top-rated organisation goes a genuinely long way.
- GiveWell — rigorous evaluation of global health and development charities
- Giving What We Can — vetted funds across cause areas, and the 10% pledge
- EA Funds — expert-managed funds by cause area
- Doneer Effectief — Dutch ANBI foundation, so donations may be tax-deductible in the Netherlands
Support EAA directly
We run on a small budget: room hire, food at events, printed materials, travel support so cost never keeps someone away, and the occasional speaker.
Set this up before publishing: add a payment link or bank details here, and say whether donations are tax-deductible.
Being honest about this
If you have a fixed amount to give and are choosing between us and a top-rated global health charity, give it to them. A donation to EAA is a bet that a stronger community in Amsterdam eventually moves more money and more talented people towards good work than the donation would have done directly. That is a real bet, and it is less certain than a bed net.
Where we think supporting us makes sense is as a small addition to giving you are already doing, or if you have seen this community be useful to someone and want more of it to exist.
Other ways to give that are not money
- Facilitate a program group. A few hours a week for six weeks, and it is the highest-leverage volunteering we have.
- Host an event. A room at your workplace or university, or a living room.
- Give a talk. If you work on something relevant, our members would like to hear about it.
- Take the giving pledge yourself. Giving What We Can — a public commitment to give a percentage of your income.
Transparency: we intend to publish what we receive and what it was spent on. Add that summary here once you have a period to report on.
Not sure where to give?
Come to an event and ask. Working out where money does the most good is one of our favourite arguments to have.
